The Wimmertal Valley is located in Gerlos-Gmünd. The entrance to the valley is right opposite Hotel Kröller. The path is a little steep for the first few metres but then you can easily stride past the Eggehtenalm pasture and, after about half an hour, on into the valley through to the snack bar at Wimmertalalm pasture. Enjoy the wonderful view to the Wechselspitze and Mitterjoch peaks.

We cross the bridge at Gasthof Oberwirt and then follow the road to the right to the entrance of the Schönachtal Valley. This is where the path begins its gentle rise. After a short break at Stinkmoosalm pasture, where there is a wonderful view of the end of the valley with the Schönachkees Glacier (3,000 m), you can reach the snack-bar at Lackenalm pasture (1,400 m) in about 1 hour.

Take the romantic forest path along Gerlosbach stream from Gerlos to Gmuend heading towards Hotel Kroeller. Here you cross the road and turn right to Hotel Almhof. Passing the single track road at Hotel Almhof, take a gentle stroll onwards to the fork at "Seemeile". A little care is needed when descending to the dam wall (supportive shoes!). After the short tunnel gallery, take the path to the right (beside the main road) to Gasthof Kuehle Rast. Here you walk through a narrow belt of forest and then, at last, slowly uphill: pass along the narrow, romantic valley along the Schwarzach River for about one hour until you see a place to stop at almost 1,400 m at a snack-bar. Alternatively you can turn left after the tunnel and walk along the banks of the Gmuend reservoir. Once back in Gmuend you cross the footbridge to the western riding stables, next to which the path rises again to Hotel Kroeller.

Starting from Isskogel Valley Station you take the road along Gerlosbach stream to the toboggan track. From here a flat path goes off to the right. This will take you to the Durlaßboden dam in around 45 minutes. After crossing the main road you can either take the steps to the top of the dam or follow the narrow access road upwards. You will be greeted here by a fantastic view across the frozen Durlaßboden Lake and the cosy restaurant "Seestüberl".
